Partnership with Parents

Parent–Teacher Communication

Communication between the home and school is vital for the success of the education we provide. HLA's faculty is committed to being available for parents and students whenever necessary and actively communicating with parents about their children's progress in school.

The Grizzly Gazette

The Grizzly Gazette, our official school newsletter, provides necessary information about current and upcoming school activities. It is published the first day of each week and is distributed via e-mail to all parents and supporters of Hope Lutheran Academy.

Parent Folder/ Assignment Journals

Teachers send home communication from the classroom in students' parent folders. This will include newsletters, student work, field trip permission slips, and announcements. Students record homework assignments in their assignment journals and bring them home on a daily basis so parents understand what their children have for homework and can assist them appropriately.

Before and After School Care

We are currently developing this program to meet the needs of the HLA family.

Social Events

Throughout the year we ask our parents to contribute their time and talents to assist in planning and running social events such as Harvest Festival, Game and Movie Nights, Bowling/Roller Skating, Christmas Party, Interscholastic Academic Competitions, Spring Play Costumes/Props/Dinner, and our End of Year Party. These events serve as opportunities to nurture bonds between our school families, building our school community. They also serve as great introduction points to invite friends and neighbors to fun events at your child’s school.

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Hope Lutheran Academy. These include but are not limited to helping in the classroom and chaperoning for field trips. Strong support from parents in the form of volunteerism demonstrates their commitment to our school and their children's education.

Registration Night

About a month before the beginning of the school year, parents attend Registration Night to fill out the appropriate forms and familiarize themselves with school policies and procedures. This gives parents an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the upcoming school year.

Back to School Visits

During the week before the first day of school, parents and students gather for a classroom visit with the teacher to prepare them for the upcoming school year.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are held at the end of the first quarter and optionally at the end of the second, third, and fourth quarters. These meetings give teachers and parents the opportunity to discuss children's progress in school.

Parent Bible Basics Seminars

The teaching of God's Word is what makes Hope Lutheran Academy special. Families who do not belong to Hope Lutheran Church attend two sessions of our Parent Bible Information Class to gain a general overview of our church's teachings. They are then invited to continue with the remaining optional sessions of the Bible Information Class and can become members of Hope Lutheran Church at the conclusion of the class if they choose to do so.
